48) Mirror Mirror on the Wall

She stood in front of the mirror, Her reflection stared back at her, It looked the same yet different, Like some unfamiliar demanour.   Age was just about similar, Eyes still black and honest, Smile was as before charming, Cheeks just a pinch away from turning pink.   But the eyes had a lost, forlorn look, Smile showed obligation rather than joy, Like the heart and mind was trying to curb, A carnival of emotions inside.   There was a time when little things made her happy, When laughter erupted with the tiniest trigger, When fear and troubles were easily banished, And life's ship seemed to have a steady radar.   Surrounded then she was by her loved ones, Their warmth and love like a protective blanket, Valued and secure she was, With people around to take care.   She was learning to be happy with herself again, After all she now was the radar of her own ship, She missed the loved ones steadying her, ...

47) A Night to Remember

It's a quiet night with clear skies, The stars are dim, there are floating white clouds, Up on the terrace four faces are seen, Enjoying the moment, soaking it all in. It was a long time since their last night out, Life had taken them places around, Tough terrains, long roads, Lost at times, clueless where to go. So this was their break, welcome and dear, For them to rebond after more than an year, Share their thoughts, opinions, life stories, Reminiscent about past cherished memories. It was a long night, and the talks flowed, Lively laughter and energy made their faces glow, Slowly the time passed and silence prevailed, On that lovely night, among the four of them. It was a calming, reassuring silence that engulfed them, A silence stronger than all the words that had been said, A soft, cool breeze accompanied, The four loved ones enjoying each other's company. Soon the night will end and sun will come out, And the world will be up and about, The fo...

46) Gift from the Sands of Time

Sitting alone at home one day, My mind transported miles far away, Across the skies, over the hills, To the sands of time beckoning me. "Come join us" to me they appeal, They look inviting, and tempting, The bygone eras also join, And the happy moments and cherished times. Sitting with this gang I begin to contemplate, My morose feelings popping up of late, The wistfulness now registered in my eyes, The feelings of longing and the deep sighs. "Oh you are trapped amongst us" they  say, To escape it new friends you must make, Hope, tomorrow and future they are called, You must let go of us if their hands you must hold. Fear reflects in my eyes, it won't let me speak, Involuntarily on their hands I tighten my grip, My treasured friends for solace in times lonely, The sands of time in that moment threaten to swallow me completely. But then my friends propped a Present in my hands, And it suddenly stopped the movement of the sands, Hold on...

45) Resilient Little Sprout

I was once a tiny seed, sowed in the soil, Watered regularly, supported with warmth and air, Till one day I sprouted little green buds, Opened up and smiled at the sky and the sun. I grew a little, sprouted some more, I was tiny and it took time but it mattered not, There were a multitude of saplings and plants to keep company, All rising at their own rates and in sweet time. But this is not a fairytale so the sun doesn't always shine, Once upon a time it was a stormy day, I was a bit stronger then but still quite young, Scared but determined not to give up. So while a few delicate things withered I stayed, A little shaken up and a little uprooted, But once the storm passed I rooted myself again, Firmly and deep this time so that I was never again swayed. But my free will was crushed and I was unearthed, And replanted someplace far and scary, There were plants still around, all ages types and heights, But to make my place firm within them was a task. I had...

44) Stranger in my Own World

The familiar lanes, shops by the side, The school, the college which was once a pride, A few seconds and then in a blur it's gone, Yearning a second look I pass by the land where I was born. All memories then begin playing in my mind, Of that blissful life I seem to have left behind, When my days ended in cozy secure nights, When my weekends were sheer delights. That grocery store's curly haired girl, Who on my weekly visits would wave and flash her pearls, Now has a unfamiliar look in her eyes, My face no longer prompts that knowing smile. Those lanes that I once expertly navigated alone and with friends, Now have new shops, restaurants and brands sprung up at ends, As for those once regularly frequented haunts, Now there is no time to visit them at all. The railway station's buzz and the trains are still same, The buses I travelled by, and their routes remain unchanged, But that once regular ordeal is now an experience of luxury, Within a few minut...
