45) Resilient Little Sprout

I was once a tiny seed, sowed in the soil,
Watered regularly, supported with warmth and air,
Till one day I sprouted little green buds,
Opened up and smiled at the sky and the sun.

I grew a little, sprouted some more,
I was tiny and it took time but it mattered not,
There were a multitude of saplings and plants to keep company,
All rising at their own rates and in sweet time.

But this is not a fairytale so the sun doesn't always shine,
Once upon a time it was a stormy day,
I was a bit stronger then but still quite young,
Scared but determined not to give up.

So while a few delicate things withered I stayed,
A little shaken up and a little uprooted,
But once the storm passed I rooted myself again,
Firmly and deep this time so that I was never again swayed.

But my free will was crushed and I was unearthed,
And replanted someplace far and scary,
There were plants still around, all ages types and heights,
But to make my place firm within them was a task.

I had become a tree by now , majestic and strong,
And I was told confidentially by a plant beside,
That I was precious and useful to the species around,
And I can tell you it made me swell up with pride.

So I started giving all that I was known for,
My leaves, bark, flowers, fruits all were repeatedly used,
But then it wasn't enough, I was slow in resprouting,
Beyond my resources I was consumed.

Proud no longer, I wanted to uproot myself,
Or simply stop sprouting anew, just wither up,
But I was nurtured with such care when I was young,
That even in its absence now I remained firmly grounded.

I was, am and always will be a resilient little sprout of this jungle,
Will give a tough fight and stay strong no matter what the trouble,
But if you hurt my roots or sway my being I'll give no more,
I'll reflower and resprout in a land far away from you.
