46) Gift from the Sands of Time
Sitting alone at home one day,
My mind transported miles far away,
Across the skies, over the hills,
To the sands of time beckoning me.
"Come join us" to me they appeal,
They look inviting, and tempting,
The bygone eras also join,
And the happy moments and cherished times.
Sitting with this gang I begin to contemplate,
My morose feelings popping up of late,
The wistfulness now registered in my eyes,
The feelings of longing and the deep sighs.
"Oh you are trapped amongst us" they say,
To escape it new friends you must make,
Hope, tomorrow and future they are called,
You must let go of us if their hands you must hold.
Fear reflects in my eyes, it won't let me speak,
Involuntarily on their hands I tighten my grip,
My treasured friends for solace in times lonely,
The sands of time in that moment threaten to swallow me completely.
But then my friends propped a Present in my hands,
And it suddenly stopped the movement of the sands,
Hold on to it forever, they whisper as they fade,
Their fingers slip from my clutch as I am left with the gift of today.
As I watch them disappear, I cry out aloud,
I yearn strongly for these friends since my childhood,
And they come back and pay a visit brief,
But I cant hold on to them always is a deep grief.
I wipe my tears and hold up the Present they gave,
A new friend for life the Present I had to make,
Hold it's hand and let it always be my anchor,
And together with it hope, tomorrow and future conquer.
