29) Tribute to Heroes

A steady firing and bombs triggering around,
An atmosphere of danger and death surrounds,
Like this at borders near rivers, seas or mines,
The army stands to fight for our country and our lives.

Passionate about protecting our country they feel,
Fighting in conditions so tough, it would make us reel,
Snow, rain, dust, heat – they brave it all,
In order to answer their nation’s call.

Smell of blood in air and ringing battle cries,
A life of comfort and safety they sacrifice,
An intense atmosphere, living dangerously on the edge,
Fearlessly battling they are between life and death.

As the enemy approaches armed and deadly,
The army prepares for combat, calm and steady,
Fellow soldiers all around getting wounded or killed,
But alas! No time to let any emotions feel.

As long as continues the war with its violence,
The battlefield gradually into a mortuary turns,
And at the end are gathered with stilled hearts,
The remains of the martyred bravehearts.

And what of their families and friends left behind,
Whose hearts for them to return safe and sound pine?
They are courageous no less than these men of the army,
Who so boldly placed the nation’s safety before their families.

To all these army-men grateful we should be,
Who sacrifice their lives for our freedom and safety,
They are our protectors, they are our pride,
A salute to these heroes, these saviors of our lives.
