21) Lord Ganesha
There away he goes,
Accompanied by noise of dhols,
With dancing men & women playing lead,
As to their favorite, adieu they bid.
Its a moment of sadness & pain,
11 days of joy have come to an end,
Though decked up & noisy the procession,
Its anything but a celebration.
11 days ago in great pomp he came,
The adorable deity of elephant-faced fame,
At homes, societies & mandals established with love great,
Each one eager to pamper their favorite.
Letting their imaginations run wild,
Creatively his 'Asana' they have designed,
Chariots, temples, eco-friendly sets,
There is no end to the variety one gets.
Decorated & worshipped with durva & flowers,
Hoping by his blessings to be showered,
All kinds of delicacies make way,
Including his favorite modaks, laddoos & pedhe.
Day & night his praises are sung,
His prasad is enjoyed by the old & the young,
For most this festival also becomes an occassion,
To meet & greet loved ones.
& so similarly the 11 days passed,
(Some bid adieu even sooner than that),
& now he goes, leaving a void,
Along with him an entire troupe has been deployed.
Riding his vehicle, safely he departs,
Riding on his tiny mouse - his mascot,
Wherever he goes, he carries him along,
Bound he is to our deity lifelong.
Ganpati, Ganesha, Ekdant, Gajanan,
By these & many other names he is known,
Liked, worshipped, loved & adored,
His presence in hearts is a moral support.
God of Intelligence he is known as,
Prayed to before starting any important task,
Such is his importance & popularity,
No big task begins before hailing him.
Such is his place in our lives that he can't just go,
His presence fills our lives & hearts we know,
His name finds a mention, makes way,
In each one's morning prayer everyday.
S although might have ended his festival,
Though might have ended the celebration & fun,
He remains with us of his own accord,
Because he is our very own beloved Elephant God.
