3) The Scene During a Boring Lecture

The lecture starts itself with large yawns,

With desperation showing in each students’ eyes,

Even the most brilliant students are heard to moan,

And settle down for the lecture with helpless sighs.

A collective groan passes all through the classroom,

As the lecturer makes his entry in style,

And the faces of the students are cast in gloom,

In contrast to the lecturer’s smile.

The lecture starts in the usual fashion,

And as on drones the lecturer’s voice,

Most of the students are seen indulging in their passion,

And class is at extremities of noise.

Soft whispers sometimes pass between friends,

And the latest buzz is talked about,

Passing chits has become out of trend,

Cell phones are the things to flaunt.

While the mischievous many play the fool,

And the quiet few in thoughts are lost,

The daring some just break the rules,

And without any hesitation bunk the class.

Still attentive are the rare studious,

Or atleast take pains to appear so in some cases,

But in extreme times they too are lost in novels,

With the lesson books kept in front of their faces.

The reverie of the dreamers is sooner disturbed,

By a chalk or the duster thrown,

Than by the welcome ringing of the bell that’s heard,

Along with a happy yell which replaces the previous groan.

The end of the lecture brings immense relief,

To all the students – mischievous or sincere,

And all of them immediately forget their grief,

Of going through the trial of the boring lecture.
